Voice
Pick how your companion sounds and preview it.
The Voice card is the first card on the Behaviour tab. It controls how your companion sounds and how it handles silence. You pick one voice, and Aura takes care of everything behind it, so there is nothing else to configure to get a great-sounding companion.
Your companion always answers aloud, with live captions on screen, so the voice you pick shapes every conversation - whether the visitor speaks or types.
Choosing a Voice
Voices are chosen from a dropdown. Every voice has a name of its own, so there is one simple list to browse.
- One flat list, A to Z - all voices sit in a single list, sorted alphabetically, with no groups or headings.
- Name and gender on every row - each row shows a play button, the voice's name, and a gender tag (Female, Male or Neutral).
- Seraphine is the default.
Pick a voice by clicking its row. The dropdown then shows the voice's name and its gender, for example "Seraphine Female".
Previewing a Voice
Every voice in the list has a play button, so you can hear it before you choose it. There is also a play button beside the dropdown that previews the voice you have selected. Click a play button again, or start a different preview, to stop the one that is playing. Only one preview plays at a time. Every voice previews the same short sentence, so you can compare them fairly.
Cost
There is no quality level to choose and no cost shown per voice: the voice you pick only changes how your companion sounds. See How Credits & Storage Work for how conversations are billed.
Languages
There is no language setting to choose, and voices are not tagged by language. Your companion replies in whatever language the visitor writes or speaks in, and follows them if they switch part-way through a conversation. Nothing to configure, and nothing for the visitor to turn on.
The voice you pick is used for every language. See Language for how this works from the visitor's side.
Idle Timeout
The same card holds the Idle Timeout slider, below the voice. It sets how long your companion waits in silence before checking in. See Inactivity Timeout.
How to Adjust
- Go to the Behaviour tab
- Open the Voice dropdown in the first card and choose a voice from the list, using the play buttons to preview
- Save your changes
Good to Know
- Microphone handling is automatic. Noise suppression, echo cancellation, and auto volume are always on for the visitor's microphone. There is nothing for you to set, whichever voice you pick.
- Timing and speed are handled for you. Your companion always listens and replies at a natural, balanced pace at normal speed, so there is nothing to tune.
- A blocked microphone is not a dead end. If a visitor's browser blocks the microphone, they can choose Continue by typing and carry on with the companion still answering aloud. If the browser blocks audio playback, they tap Tap to enable sound to hear it.
- Visitors can mute it. A visitor who would rather read the live captions can mute the companion's voice from the conversation controls. Everyone else hears the voice you pick.
- Existing companions keep the voice they had; it may carry a new name. There is nothing you need to do.
- If a voice becomes unavailable, the dropdown tells you your current voice isn't available right now. Pick another voice before you save: the profile can't be saved with a voice that isn't offered. Until you do, conversations use the default voice, so your companion keeps answering.
Use Test mode to listen to your companion in a real conversation before settling on a voice.
