Resource Viewer
View the full details of an uploaded resource.
The Resource Viewer is the full-screen view for resources that creators have uploaded to their companions. It provides a rich, native viewing experience for every supported content type — no external services or third-party embeds required.
What you'll see
The viewer adapts to the type and format of the resource:
Documents
- PDF — Rendered with page navigation, thumbnail sidebar, zoom (10%–500%), fit-to-width toggle, rotate, search, and download. Keyboard shortcuts supported.
- Word (.docx, .doc) — Full document structure with headings, tables, images, comments, and tracked changes.
- Excel (.xlsx, .xls) — Sheet tabs, column resizing, frozen rows/columns, and search across sheets.
- CSV / TSV — Virtualized table with fast scrolling, search, and zoom.
- PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt) and OpenDocument (.odp, .odt, .ods) — Rendered as slide/page views after processing.
- Markdown (.md) — Rendered as formatted text with headings, lists, tables, and links.
- Plain Text (.txt) — Displayed in a clean, readable monospace view.
All document viewers include a slim toolbar with zoom controls, search, and download.
Videos
Video resources play in an embedded video player with standard controls -- play/pause, volume, fullscreen, and progress scrubbing.
Images
Image resources are displayed alongside an AI Caption panel. The caption is automatically generated when the image is processed, describing the image content for search and retrieval.
- View mode — The caption is shown as formatted text below (in-page) or beside (full-page) the image.
- Edit mode — Click the edit icon to modify the caption directly. Changes are saved and re-indexed so the companion immediately reflects the update.
- Regenerate — Click the regenerate icon to re-analyse the image with AI, replacing the existing caption.
Viewer Controls
Every viewer includes:
- Full Screen — Expand the viewer to fill the entire screen (available for all resource types)
- Open in New Tab — Open the resource in a dedicated page
- Download — Download the original file
PDF documents additionally support:
- Fit to Width — Automatically adjusts zoom to match the viewer width, stays locked on resize
- Rotate — Rotate pages clockwise or counterclockwise
- Thumbnail Sidebar — Toggle page thumbnails for quick navigation
- Search — Find text within the document with result navigation
Who can access it
The Resource Viewer is available to signed-in creators who have access to the companion the resource belongs to. It's part of the companion workspace and is accessed when you click on a resource from the companion's resource list.
If you want to share a resource with someone who doesn't have an Aura account, use the shared resource link instead. That creates a public view that anyone can access.
