Browsing Chats
Navigate the chat list, filter by user, and find the conversations that matter.
When you open the Conversations tab for a companion, a sidebar on the left shows every chat that has taken place. Chats are grouped by time so you can quickly scan recent activity.
Chat List Layout
Each chat entry in the sidebar shows:
- Author name - "by" the user's display name if they were logged in, or an anonymous label for visitors. There's no profile picture in the list - just the name.
- Date and time - when the conversation started, displayed in your local timezone.
- Message count - the number of messages exchanged, shown next to a chat-bubble icon.
- Star rating - if the user left a rating, it appears as a star icon with the score.
You can also rename a chat directly from the list - hover a chat entry and click the pencil icon, type the new name, and confirm. Names are capped at 100 characters. This is handy for labeling notable conversations so you can find them again later.
Chats are automatically grouped into time-based sections:
- Today - conversations from the current day
- Yesterday - conversations from the previous day
- This Week - earlier conversations from the current week
- This Month - conversations from earlier in the month
- Older months - grouped by month name and year (e.g., "March 2026")
Click a group header to collapse or expand it - every group is collapsible except the most recent one, which always stays open. This makes it easier to scan past a busy "Today" section straight to older conversations.
As you scroll down, older chats load automatically in batches - there's no "load more" button to click. Once every conversation has been fetched, a small "All conversations loaded" message appears at the bottom of the list.
Filtering by User
At the top of the chat list, there is a searchable Users dropdown. This lets you narrow down the chat list to conversations from one or more specific people - it's a multi-select, so you can pick several users at once to see their combined conversations.
Start typing a name or email address to filter the list of matching users, then select as many as you need. Clear your selection from the dropdown to see all chats again.
The chat list has two distinct empty states, so you can tell at a glance what's going on:
- No filter applied and no chats yet - the list shows "User chats will appear here."
- A user filter is active and nothing matches - the list shows "No chats for selected users." Clear the filter to see the full list again.
Quick Access to Analytics
At the very top of the chat list, you will find a Companion Analytics link. Clicking it takes you straight to the full analytics view where you can see conversation volume, sentiment trends, and more.
Refreshing the List
If new conversations have come in since you opened the page, click the Refresh button (the circular arrow icon) in the top-right corner of the chat sidebar to reload the latest chats.
