Starting a Conversation
How to find a companion and start chatting.
Getting into a conversation with a companion only takes a few seconds.
How to start chatting
Find a companion
You can find companions in several ways:
- Browse the Explore page and click a companion card
- Open one from your Collections
- Click a companion in your Chat History
- Follow a shared link someone sent you
Open the companion
Clicking a companion card takes you to the chat screen. You'll see the companion's name, avatar, and description at the top, along with any quick start prompts the creator has set up.
Nearly every companion greets you automatically as soon as you arrive - see below.
Send your first message
Type something in the text box at the bottom and press Enter, or click one of the quick start prompts to send it instantly. The companion's response will stream in - you'll see it appear word by word.
Cost
Chatting is free. There's no credit balance, subscription, or usage limit on your end - the companion's creator covers the cost of every conversation, not you.
Shared links
Creators can share a direct link to their companion. If someone sends you one, just click it and you'll land right on the chat screen. Shared links work whether you're signed in or not - though signing in lets you save the companion and keep your chat history.
Greeting messages
Nearly every companion has a greeting, written by its creator - a welcome message, a quick introduction, or a prompt to get the conversation going. It streams into view the moment you open the chat, typing itself out rather than appearing all at once, and it becomes the first message in the conversation once you actually start talking.
