Access Control
Decide whether visitors need to sign in before chatting.
The Access section lets you control who can chat with your companion. By default, your companion is open to everyone -- but you can restrict it to signed-in users only.
The Toggle
The Sign-in Required toggle has two states:
Off -- Open to Everyone (Default)
"Anyone can chat -- no account needed."
When the toggle is off, any visitor can start a conversation with your companion immediately. They do not need to create an account or sign in. This is the default for all new companions.
Best for: Public-facing companions where you want maximum reach and the lowest barrier to entry. Customer support, product guides, and marketing companions.
On -- Members Only
"Sign-in required before chatting."
When the toggle is on, visitors must sign in to their Aura account before they can chat. If they do not have an account, they will be prompted to create one.
Best for: Companions that handle sensitive information, internal team companions, or situations where you want to know who you are talking to. Also useful if you want to track individual users across conversations.
How to Change
- Go to the Advanced tab
- Find the Access section
- Click the Sign-in Required toggle to switch between open and restricted access
The panel below the toggle updates immediately to show the current state, so you always know whether your companion is open or restricted.
This setting only affects who can start a conversation. It does not change whether your companion appears on your public profile (that is controlled by the public/private visibility toggle).
