Image Editor
Crop and adjust images with the built-in editor.
Whenever you upload an image for an avatar or profile picture in Aura, the Image Editor opens automatically so you can crop it to the right size and shape.
How it opens
The editor appears as a dialog overlay when you select an image file for upload (such as a companion avatar or your profile picture). The image loads in the center of the dialog with a crop area overlaid on top.
Cropping your image
The crop area
The crop area is a rectangular selection box on top of your image:
- Drag to move -- click and drag inside the crop area to reposition it over the part of the image you want to keep
- Drag the handles -- use the corner and edge handles to resize the crop area
- The area outside the crop is dimmed so you can see exactly what will be kept
Aspect ratio presets
Below the image, you'll find a row of aspect ratio preset buttons:
- 1:1 (Square) -- perfect for circular avatars and square thumbnails
- 4:5 (Portrait) -- a tall, portrait-oriented crop
- 3:4 (Portrait) -- another portrait option, slightly wider
- 16:9 (Landscape) -- a wide, cinematic crop
- Free -- no fixed ratio; resize the crop area to any shape you want
Click a preset to lock the crop area to that ratio. The active preset is highlighted with a checkmark. When you switch presets, the crop area automatically re-centers on the image at the new ratio.
Applying your crop
Click the Apply button to save your crop. The editor processes the image and produces a cropped file. If the resulting file is too large, the editor automatically reduces the image quality to keep it within size limits.
The dialog closes and the cropped image is set as your new avatar or picture.
Canceling
Click outside the dialog or use the close button to cancel without making changes. Your original image is left unchanged.
The image editor automatically handles high-resolution displays -- your cropped image will look sharp on Retina and other high-DPI screens.
