Upgrading or Changing Plans
How to switch plans, upgrade your billing cycle, blocked downgrades, or cancel your subscription.
Your needs might change as your companions grow. Here is how to adjust your subscription.
Upgrading to a higher plan
If you are on a lower tier and want more credits, storage, or features, you can upgrade directly from the Plans tab.
Simply click the plan card for the tier you want, and you will be taken through Stripe checkout to complete the upgrade. Your new plan takes effect immediately.
Switching from monthly to yearly
If you are already on a paid plan with monthly billing, you can switch to yearly billing to save money. On the Plans tab:
- Toggle the billing cycle to Yearly
- Find your current plan card — it will show an Upgrade to Annual button
- Click the button and complete the checkout
You will start the yearly billing cycle and lock in the discounted rate.
Downgrading
Direct self-serve downgrades are not available through the Plans tab — a lower-tier plan card shows Downgrade Unavailable. If you need to move to a lower tier, you have two options:
- Cancel your current subscription — your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period, then you can subscribe to a lower tier
- Contact support — reach out through the Help page for assistance with an in-cycle plan change
Whenever a downgrade is processed — including one handled by support — Aura checks your organization's current storage and training-token usage against the target plan's limits first. If you're over what the lower plan allows, the downgrade is blocked, and you're told exactly what to remove (storage, training data, or both) before it can go through. This replaces older behavior that let an organization end up silently over-limit after a downgrade.
When you cancel, you do not lose access right away. Your current plan stays active until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
Canceling your subscription
From the Overview tab
Click Manage on your plan card to open the Stripe billing portal, where you can cancel.
From the Plans tab
If you are viewing a lower-tier plan, a cancellation option is available there as well.
When you cancel:
- Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period
- Plan credits continue to work until the period ends
- Top-up credits you have purchased remain in your account regardless of subscription status
- After the period ends, you will be moved to an inactive state and can subscribe to a new plan at any time
What happens to your credits when you change plans
Upgrading or moving to a different plan resets your balance to just the new plan's credit grant. Any credits left over from the previous plan are forfeited at that point — they don't stack with the new grant. This is intentional: it's what prevents cycling between plans from generating free credits.
Plan credits
Plan credits renew (or stop renewing) based on your subscription status. Unused plan credits from the current period remain available until the period ends or you change plans, whichever comes first.
Top-up credits
Top-up credits are yours to keep. They are not affected by the reset above and do not expire when you change or cancel your plan.
Bonus, promotional, and referral credits
These remain in your account regardless of plan changes.
